Hi there Hollowers! Thanks for joining this holiday week with a fun project using contents from the November Subscription Box.

Today, I will be creating a project using the heat bendable wood mouldings from Wood U Bend. There was a small sample in the subscription box but if you check out SW Craft Connection, there are a wide range of mouldings which are perfect for home décor and art projects.

Supplies used for today’s project

I am creating a votive candle holder/flower jar but some other ideas for the sample mouldings is to create a napkin holder, a mixed media project, or to jazz up a container or up-cycled item. More amazing ideas are available on this blog from the other design team members as well.

I started out my project by experimenting with applying heat to the moulding. It is very important when working with these, that you don’t try and force the moulding to bend before you apply heat. This will most definitely break the moulding. I applied heat using my heat gun to the molding for approximately 15 – 30 seconds. The time will vary depending on your heat tool as well as what type of moulding you are using. It’s actually kind of magical how the moulding bends so easily but then sets back up once it’s cooled. It reminds me a bit of flexible chipboard.

Once my moulding was flexible, I wrapped it around the votive candle jar to set the shape. Next, I used a sponge to apply gesso to the mouldings. I applied three coats and let it dry.

After the gesso had dried, I applied Prima Art Alchemy wax in Blue Lagoon. I also added some micro pearls and Star Dust Stickles. To finish off the piece, I distressed the raised portions of the mouldings by using a finger dauber and coffee colored ink.

I then used a glue gun to adhere a piece of burlap around the votive jar. The moulding was then adhered on top of the burlap using a glue gun. The moulding was not long enough to span the entire votive jar, so I adhered the flower moulding in the empty space and then filled that in with a string of pearls.

This was a fun and easy project! I hope you have a wonderful and safe holiday and I’ll catch you back here next week!

I’d love to see your projects using this Subscription Box. You can post them on The Hedgehog Hollow Box Facebook group as well as Stamping at the Hedgehog Hollow Facebook group.

Until next week, take care!
