DIY Father’s Day Gift Mini album

We have a tradition in our family of making gifts for each other for special occasions. This month’s Hedgehog Hollow Box really inspired me to create a mini album for Father’s Day for my husband. I don’t have the privilege of having my father anymore, but I know he would have loved one of these mini albums.

I’m also pretty tickled with myself for creating this gift so far ahead of the actual day I will be gifting it! Having things done way ahead of time has never been my forte!

This is a quick and simple design that I’ve created to share with you today and I had the album itself done in less than 45 minutes. Adding the photos and decorations will take a bit longer, but that’s the really fun part anyway!

I started by cutting 6 sheets of white card stock down to 7″ and then I cut them in half at 4-1/4″. I ended up with 12 sheets of white card cut at 4-1/4 x 7″ and these will serve as the pages to my album. I scored them all at 3/4″ and then punched 2 holes in all of them on the scored end 1″ from each side.

I created a binder piece for the scored end to create a nice spine for the album. I used the Maker Forte Alex Syberia Night Garden Slimline papers to line the page of the album and create the binder.

The binder is cut at 4-1/4″ x 2-3/4″. I scored it at 1-1/4 and 1-1/2″ along the 4-1/4″ edge. This also got the 2 holes punched in it as well.

I added the binder piece around the pages and then threaded a nice jute ribbon and tied a bow to finish it off.

I added a coordinating piece of the Night Garden paper cut to 4 x 5-3/4″ to the front page of the album. I also created a decorative piece on dark gray using the fishing boat stamp in the April kit. This was heat embossed in silver while the sentiment was heat embossed in black. I like the metallic touch this added to the cover!

I finished off the album by adding pieces of the Night Garden paper to the front of each page. These were cut down to 4 x 5-3/4″ and I cut 12 of them in all, including the cover piece.

You can also see that I used my old scallop border punch on the binder piece and my old corner rounder on the ends of all the pages.

The final touch is to add photos that you think the recipient will enjoy to each page!

I used the leftover Night Garden papers to serve as photo mats. I also created some of my own die cut fish using the stencil and a blue, yellow, and brown ink to stencil them on white cardstock and fussy cut them out.

I did have to add some stickers and sentiment strips from my stash since I used all the fishing die cuts on scrapbook layouts the day after receiving this kit in the mail! I really loved this kit!

If you don’t have stickers or sentiment strips in your stash, create some with the sentiments in the kit. The adventure sentiment stamps in the To All The Men in my Life stamp set in the kit are perfect for photo sentiment strips. I will be using those on some of the pages in this album.

You can also use your old circle punches or any other punches you have to create pieces from your leftover papers to layer behind your photos and sentiments to anchor them. A tag punch will create some fabulous DIY decorations as well!
